Ciarán Hinds at his first ever festival

Ciaran Hinds in GothenburgCiarán is in Gothenburg, attending the International Film Festival (translated from a Swedish website).

He is one of those international stars, as most recognize – but do not really remember from his movies. And the name Ciarán Hinds  does not give much clue.

“Many seem to remember me from the television series Rome, Calendar Girls or perhaps Margot at the Wedding, he says.

Now he is in Gothenburg, to present two new films he’s in.

With over 70 film roles behind him, he would not really need any introduction. The real Ciaran Hinds, 56, has consciously stayed away from public jobs.

He is rarely at gala premieres and he prefers to keep off the limelight his girlfriend and 18-year-old daughter.

“It’s not that the studios are calling every week for new projects, but I’ve managed to keep me busy in this job for over 30 years,” he says.

Originally, he is from Ireland, and one of the films at the festival – The Eclipse – is just Irish.

Ciaran Hinds - a cold night in Sweden“They is always fun to play at home. And this is a remarkable story about a widower who, at a literary festival on the south coast of Ireland, meets a woman, a very charismatic writer. She is played by Danish actress Iben Hjejle.

“Very talented and clever, though I still find it difficult to pronounce her real name.”

The second film is latest Todd Solondz’s acclaimed Life During Wartime.

“I always liked Solondz and was both pleased and flattered when he wanted to cast me.”

Despite all his years in the film industry, it was only yesterday that Ciarán Hinds visited a film festival!  He has not had time.

“Usually I do not have time. But now I look forward to see as many films as possible – an impressive range. And hopefully I’ll have time to give me out of winter weather and see more of the city, says Ciarán Hinds – who made sure to have with both wool hat and warm ear muffs.”
