On his way out of the wilderness, Yeshua (Jesus in Hebrew), played by Ewan McGregor, is tempted by a demon that can be seen as another side of himself, or the embodiment of his doubt. He encounters a family that is experiencing some father/son difficulties, as the young lad longs to leave their bleak desert surroundings for a life in Jerusalem, whereas the patriarch (played by Ciarán) insists he stay close to home.

Struggling with Satan over the fate of the family in crisis, Yeshua finds himself set up for a dramatic test, as the Devil tries to suggest that his father does not love him, and forces him to confront his own fate.

Although the story is in line with the Biblical narrative (Jesus 40 days in the desert, and his victorious struggle against temptation), the main characters have been described as "a holy man and a demon", to let the door open to interpretation. Everybody being careful not to provoke the same controversies as Scorcese's The Last Temptation of Christ, viewers are free to see the film as a tale about the relationship between father and son. Other days, other ways...
